SCOTIABANK-CANADIAN TIRE SKILLS COMPETITION AND SCOTIABANK-CANADIAN TIRE ALL-STAR GAMES

For the 2014 edition of the Bell Capital Cup, the organizing committee is proud to offer each ALL TEAMS the opportunity to take part in either the Scotiabank-Canadian Tire All-Star game, or the Scotiabank-Canadian Tire Skills Competition.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

• All AA, A, B and House League teams MUST participate in the Scotiabank-Canadian Tire Skills Competition. Any team not participating in the Scotiabank-Canadian Tire All-Star Skills Competition will face disciplinary actions from the organizing committee. Please see below or the tournament rules for further explanation.
• Each player on the team must be entered into the Scotiabank-Canadian Tire Skills Competition prior to a team member taking part in a second event.
• Each participant must compete in full equipment including neckguards.

SCOTIABANK - CANADIAN TIRE ALL-STAR GAME

All AAA divisions will compete in the Scotiabank-Canadian Tire All-Star Game.

Each All-Star game will include the presentation of the Canadian Tire 3-Star selection. 3 Stars of the game will be selected by a panel of local Canadian Tire dealers or their designees.

Please note that ALL All-Star games will be non-contact, including the Major Peewee and Major Peewee AAA divisions.

The Scotiabank - Canadian Tire All-Star game is considered a featured, and favourite, event for the players. When teams accept entrance into The Bell Capital Cup they do so knowing that participation in the Scotiabank - Canadian Tire All-Star game is mandatory for ALL AAA teams. This includes teams that have games, or could have playoff-round games, on the same day as the Scotiabank - Canadian Tire All-Star game. Any team not participating in the Scotiabank - Canadian Tire All-Star game may face some, or all, of the following disciplinary actions:

1. Forfeiture of remaining games; and/or
2. Suspension of coaches for ALL games following completion of the All-Star game including playoffs and championship games; and/or
3. Risk sanctions for future year's entry

   Scotiabank-canadian tire Skills Competition

The Bell Capital Cup is proud to host the Scotiabank-Canadian Tire Skills Competition as a unique and innovative way to promote fundamental skill development in atom and minor peewee aged players.
Each team is required to nominate 14 skaters and 2 goaltenders for the Scotiabank-Canadian Tire Skills Competition. Teams may enter a player in more than one skill event provided the following criteria has been met:

1. The team carries less than 14 skaters and 2 goaltenders
2. All players on the team's roster have been entered into a skills event

Teams are required to arrive to their designated arena fully dressed (excluding goaltender's pads and skates) a minimum of 30 minutes prior to their skill competition.

The Scotiabank-Canadian Tire Skills Competition is another featured, and favourite, event for the players. IMPORTANT NOTES:

1. All skaters MUST arrive at the arena in full equipment due to limited dressing rooms
2. No exceptions will be made
3. Goaltenders must come fully dressed to the arena except for their pads and skates
4. No exceptions will be made

Relay Race

RULES & REGULATIONS

• Each team will consist of four (4) skaters. Skaters are to be in full equipment including gloves, neckguards, and helmets.
• No sticks are permitted in the race.
• Nets will be pushed out to the top of the goaltender crease for safety.
• Four (4) teams will participate per heat to a maximum of six (6) teams if necessary.
• The first player on each team will start at the blue line (and/or centre red line should there be more than four teams) and make one complete revolution of the ice.
• A baton (a piece of a hockey stick) will be handed off to the next player to skate.
  • When handing off the baton, the skater receiving the baton should be in a stationary position (no running starts).
    1. A five second penalty will be added to the team's time for a running start violation
    2. Should a skater drop the baton on the handoff, he/she may pick it up without penalty
• The teams winning each heat will remain on the ice for the Finals.
• Any skater/team crossing in front of the net will be disqualified from the event

Agility Relay

RULES & REGULATIONS

• Teams will be comprised of three skaters with a puck (identified as X)
• Four heats will be executed simultaneously in each of the four corners of the ice
• Using four pylons per quadrant (the first pylon just outside of the blue line; a second pylon just inside the blue line; a third pylon located on the top of the face off circle; a fourth pylon located on the face off dot)
• One participant for each team will line up on the designated markings just outside of the blue line (the rest of the participants will be waiting inside the center ice face off circle, until the drill begins; once the drill begins the second skaters)
• On the whistle with a puck the first skaters will skate to the pylon located just outside the blue line
• They will then make a tight turn around the pylon and stickhandle in a slalom fashion through the pylons
• When at the end of the pylons, he/she then makes a tight turn around the final pylon and stickhandles back through in the same slalom fashion
• Once the skater reaches the final pylon, he/she will pass the puck to the next skater
• The first skater must have reached the final pylon before the puck can be passed
• The second skater will continue through the pylons in the same manner as the first skater
• If a player shall MISS a pylon, his/her team will be disqualified

Target Shooting

RULES & REGULATIONS

• Each shooter will have 25 seconds to shoot 12 pucks.
• Only one end of the ice will be utilized
  • Open end will be allowed for goaltenders to warm-up
• A Bell Capital Cup shooting board will be hung on the net with pre-cut holes as targets.
• The pucks will be shot from a line between the hash marks of the face-off circles.
• A point is awarded for each puck entering the net.
• A maximum of 12 points can be achieved per player
• In the event of a tie, there will be a shoot-off and each player will shoot 12 additional pucks (continues until a winner is determined).

Powerplay Challenge

RULES & REGULATIONS

• Teams will be comprised of 3 offensive players (X's/O's), 1 defensive player (D) and 1 goalie (G)
• Both ends of the ice will host the Power Play Challenge simultaneously
• Offensive team will have 90 seconds to score as many goals as possible
• Offensive team starts from behind the blue line with a puck
• Upon the start of the completion/whistle the offensive team attacks the net with players entering the attacking zone on-side
• A play is considered dead when the goalie covers the puck or the puck crosses the blue line
• Once the play is dead the offensive team must retrieve another puck from behind the blue line and re-enter the zone on-side
  • Should the Powerplay Challenge coordinator deem that the defensive player is out of position to start the new play (due to him/her chasing the puck beyond the blue line, etc.) the coordinator has the right to briefly delay the start of the next puck in order to allow the defensive player to regain a suitable defensive position
• 1 point will be awarded to the offensive team for each goal scored
• The defensive team allowing the fewest goals during the event will be crowned defensive champions
• In the event of a tie for offensive teams, the offensive teams will repeat the above but with only 45 seconds against the defensive team champion (or tied teams)
• In the event of a tie among defensive teams, the defensive teams will repeat the above but with only 45 seconds against the offensive team champion (or tied teams)

Breakaway Relay

RULES & REGULATIONS

• Teams will be comprised of three skaters (identified as X & O above)
• Both ends of the ice will be hosting the Breakaway Relay simultaneously
• Players will have 60 seconds to complete 6 breakaways on a goalie
• Each player will take 3 breakaways
• The first skater (identified as X above) will start at the blue line with the pucks in front of him/her
• After shooting the first puck, the player will return outside of the blueline and pickup the second puck
• Once the first skater has shot his/her third puck they will return to outside of the blueline thereby putting him/her on-side, at which time the second skater (identified as O above) will then begin to take his/her three breakaways
• One (1) point will be awarded to the player for each puck scored (maximum of 6 points)
• Goalie that allows the fewest goals against during the event will be the goalie champion
• In the event of a tie, a winner will be determined be a shoot-out elimination between the players tied (the goalie with the most points will be in the net)
• In the event of a goaltender tie, the players with the most points will shoot on the goaltender in a shoot out format
